Telemedicine

Infirmary Health offers telemedicine services to make healthcare easier for you. With our telemedicine services, your next appointment is just a phone call away.

What is telemedicine?

By using telemedicine, the patient and physician can meet via telephone or a streaming service to discuss the patient’s medical conditions. Telemedicine services are a great way for individuals who are stationary or cannot leave their homes to receive the healthcare and treatment that they need.

The types of conditions that can usually successfully be treated using telemedicine include:
  • Minor bruises, cuts, and injuries
  • Common infections and colds
  • Pain
  • Insect bites
  • Urinary tract infections (UTI)
  • Throat and sinus issues
  • Skin irritations
  • Diarrhea

Benefits of Telemedicine

Telemedicine has numerous benefits, especially for homebound patients. However, the expansion of telemedicine makes healthcare more accessible to everyone as it allows for people to:

  • Receive treatment regardless of location
  • Save time and money by not having to travel to a medical facility
  • Conduct routine tests or diagnostic reviews remotely
  • Prevents the spread of disease from one patient to the next

How Telemedicine Works

Telemedicine usually involves the physician meeting with the patient over the chosen form of technology. Symptoms are discussed and appropriate courses of treatment are chosen based on the physician’s conclusions.

While in some circumstances it can be harder to diagnose certain disorders through telemedicine, the ability to video conference and share pictures usually gives the physician an accurate way to diagnose medical issues. Another great part about telemedicine is the ability for healthcare teams to conduct remote monitoring to ensure that the patient’s vital signs and bodily functions are working properly. Telemedicine also offers an efficient way to share healthcare information between the patient and the healthcare providers.
