Our radiologists are certified and highly trained at providing a wide variety
of screening services. Prevention and early diagnosis are some of the
best ways to prevent a disease from spreading and allowing it to be treated
effectively. Infirmary Health’s imaging and diagnostic services
are designed to allow for the prevention or quick diagnosis of diseases
or disorders so that you can return to normalcy and health as soon as possible.
Imaging
Infirmary Health’s radiology department provides imaging services
to allow physicians to see and respond to abnormalities quickly and effectively.
Our radiology imaging services include:
PET/CT imaging
CT imaging
Low-Dose CT lung cancer scans
Digital mammography
Digital X-Ray
Cardiac nuclear imaging
General ultrasound
Echocardiography
Vascular ultrasound
Each of these tests are designed to catch and allow treatment for disorders
early and have been used especially to early diagnose most common forms
of cancer. While PET/CT scans examine the chemistry of the body to reveal
tumors and growths, ultrasounds and X-rays use more traditional technology
to look inside the body to determine any issue that may be causing discomfort.
Bone Density Scan
A bone density scan, also known as a DEXA scan, is a type of low-dose x-ray
that measures calcium and other minerals in your bones. Bone density scans
are often used to diagnose or assess your risk of osteoporosis, a health
condition that weakens bones and makes them more likely to break.
The following locations offer the DEXA scan:
The Breast Center at Thomas Hospital
North Baldwin Infirmary Imaging Center
Infirmary Imaging | Saraland
Infirmary Imaging | I-65
Thomas Medical Center
Testing
Our Mobile-based Imaging and Diagnostic Service also offers different forms
of testing. The different forms of testing that we provide include
Electroencephalography (EEG)
This test allows the physician to see the electrical impulses of the brain
to see if there is any abnormality. This test is usually used when the
individual is believed to have epilepsy or some other disorder of the
electrical impulses that control the brain.
Nerve Conduction Studies/Electromyography (EMG)
These tests allow physicians to see if your nerves and muscles are working
properly. They use electrical signals traversing the muscle and nerve
nets in your body to see whether those systems are functioning normally.
Electrocardiogram (EKG)
Electrocardiograms are used by physicians to diagnose problems in the heart’s
electrical activity.
Cardiac Stress Testing
This testing is designed to ensure the vascular system is healthy and no
portion of the heart or major arteries is blocked. The test is designed
to reveal such blockages and abnormalities by putting the heart under
stress from exercise.
Pulmonary Function Testing
This test measures the functions of the lung in how it inhales, exhales,
and puts oxygen into the blood stream. Usually, this test is done by gauging
lung function by breathing into a machine called a spirometry.
Sleep Disorder Studies
These studies are intended to diagnose and determine the proper course
of treatment for those with sleeping disorders. This is usually done by
close monitoring of a person’s sleeping session.
