PROGRAM UPDATE: At this time, we are no longer accepting applications or scheduling interviews for the class of 2024-2025. Thank you for your interest.

The mission of the Mobile Infirmary Internal Medicine Residency is to educate our Internal Medicine physicians to treat all patients with a focus on LIFE, demonstrating the core values of Leadership, Integrity, Family and Excellent Service through the practice of evidence-based medicine. The residency program aims to ensure graduates are resilient, capable and efficient internists who understand the health care system, recognize the value they bring to it, employ life-long learning, and are able to balance their personal life with their careers in order to serve their patients with excellence and compassion while promoting the health of the communities they serve as well as their own families. Our graduates will be competent in differential diagnosis of complex medical presentations, will have expertise in health maintenance, and will be able to provide leadership to the hospitals and patients in their community. They will implement innovations to patients in the ambulatory care setting, will be competent to perform consultations in the independent practice of internal medicine based on evidence-based medicine principles, and implement improvements in quality assurance within the limitations of affordable medicine. Our graduates will be prepared to improve their skill through practice-based learning and through deliberative study and practice. Graduates of our program shall demonstrate efficiency in each of the six core competencies.

In addition to core internal medicine clinical training, residents will be provided with training in bedside ultrasonography and will have opportunities to train in the simulation lab. All robust Epic functionalities will be taught and residents will be provided with an opportunity to be a part of improving the EPIC system at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. Teaching faculty will critique Resident bedside examination and interview skills, many of where passed down from various masters of the American College of Physicians. The Quality Review and Journal Club conferences will embed both evidence-based medicine and the development of critical thinking skills for residents.
