Mobile Infirmary welcomes inaugural class of Internal Medicine residents!

Mobile Infirmary, an affiliate of Infirmary Health, welcomed their inaugural class of Internal Medicine residents on Match Day 2024.

Physician residency applicants, institutions, training programs, medical schools, and the medical education community at large participate in Match Week activities that culminate on Friday with “Match Day”, the day on which applicants learn of the residency programs in which they will train. Match Day signals the transition from undergraduate to graduate medical education for applicants and is celebrated simultaneously by Match participants across the United States and the globe.

Mobile Infirmary received approval by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to establish an internal medicine physician residency program beginning in June 2024. After three years, Mobile Infirmary’s Internal Medicine Residency Program will train 85 physician residents throughout Infirmary Health’s facilities.

Internal medicine physicians are specialists who apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the diagnosis, treatment and compassionate care of adults across the spectrum of health. The physician residents will rotate through Infirmary Health’s diverse medical service offerings including inpatient care, emergency services, outpatient medical clinics and a continuity clinic staffed by the resident physicians and board-certified faculty.

“We are excited to welcome a residency program to Mobile Infirmary,” shares Susan Boudreau, president of Mobile Infirmary. “While our hospital has been fortunate to train and develop new physicians for many years, this new program fulfills our long-term vision of doing so through Mobile Infirmary directly. This will allow us to recruit and retain more physicians to our region and care for all communities in South Alabama.”
