Fairhope, Ala. – Thomas Hospital, an affiliate of Infirmary Health, proudly announces its certification as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission. This certification highlights the hospital’s commitment to delivering exceptional, life-saving care to stroke patients in Baldwin County and beyond.
The Joint Commission’s standards require hospitals to demonstrate excellence in patient care, clinical outcomes, specialized resources, and training. Thomas Hospital’s comprehensive stroke care program includes rapid diagnosis, acute stroke treatment protocols, and a coordinated approach to recovery and prevention.
“Achieving this certification was a tremendous team effort,” said Ormand Thompson, president of Thomas Hospital. “It reflects our dedication to providing the highest level of care and ensures that we can deliver timely, life-saving treatments that improve patient outcomes.”
The certification process required a rigorous review of patient care, including round-the-clock stroke care readiness, access to advanced imaging, and protocols for immediate intervention. Thomas Hospital demonstrated its ability to provide swift, effective care to stroke patients, from diagnosis through recovery. As a Primary Stroke Center, Thomas Hospital is equipped to offer cutting-edge treatments and therapies that minimize the impact of stroke, improving recovery chances for patients.
“We are excited to have achieved this important milestone for Thomas Hospital and the community it serves,” said Richard Friedman, MD. “By obtaining a Primary Stroke Certification, Thomas Hospital is now able to deliver cutting-edge stroke care to our patients faster than ever before.”
Thomas Hospital, an 189-bed acute care facility in downtown Fairhope, is known for its award-winning cardiovascular and maternity services. The hospital is home to Baldwin County’s only open-heart surgery center and Colony Rehabilitation Hospital, the county’s only CARF-accredited inpatient rehabilitation hospital.
