National Pharmacy Week

The third full week in October is National Pharmacy Week. During this time, Infirmary Health honors and celebrates this talented and hard-working group of individuals. At Infirmary Health, our pharmacy team is a strong and diverse group of professionals providing quality care for our patients in in-patient and out-patient settings.

Pharmacy Week is a time to recognize the powerful impact Pharmacy employees make on their patients. In addition, it is an opportunity to raise patients' and colleagues' awareness about pharmacists' vital role on the healthcare team.

Here are ten questions to ask your pharmacist about your medications.

1. What is this medication used for?

2. Are there other names or uses for this medication?

3. How and when do I take my medication, and what should I do if I miss a dose?

4. How should I store my medication?

5. Does this medication have any common side effects, and what should I do if they occur?

6. Are there any precautions I can take to help reduce the chance of experiencing a side effect?

7. Are there any interactions between this medication and my other medications—prescription, over-the-counter, or herbal products?

8. Are there any foods or drinks that I should avoid while taking my medication?

9. Are there any cheaper alternatives or copay assistance programs for this medication?

10. May I repeat back what you just told me to make sure I understand?
