Infirmary Health and Gulf Orthopaedics First to Offer Intracept Procedure for Chronic Back Pain

Infirmary Health is now providing innovative treatment for chronic back pain with the Intracept procedure. Intracept is an innovative, minimally invasive procedure that targets a specific type of chronic low back pain known as vertebrogenic pain. Dr. Leslie Rush, pain management physician with Gulf Orthopaedics, performed the first Intracept procedure in the Gulf Coast Region at Infirmary Health’s Daphne Surgery Center.

The Intracept procedure utilizes a specialized probe that is inserted into the vertebrae, targeting the basivertebral nerve (BVN). The probe uses radiofrequency energy to heat the BVN, effectively blocking the transmission of pain signals and providing relief to patients.

Nearly 65 million Americans suffer from back pain, with 16 million adults experiencing persistent or chronic pain that limits their daily activities. The procedure is implant-free thereby preserving the overall structure of the spine. Due to the minimally invasive nature of the procedure, patients will be able resume their daily activities more quickly.
