Mobile Infirmary earns esteemed Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Certification from The Joint Commission

Mobile, Ala. – Mobile Infirmary has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval ® and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check Mark for Advanced Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center (TSC) Certification. The hospital met rigorous standards for performing endovascular thrombectomy and demonstrating continuous compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) Standards, which were evaluated throughout a stringent onsite review by TJC.

The TSC Certification is a reflection of the safety, quality and efficiency provided at Mobile Infirmary and the Infirmary Health Neuroscience Center of Excellence for stroke-related diagnoses. Mobile Infirmary’s stroke team is comprised of neurologists, neuro-interventionalists, emergency physicians, nurses and others who ensure patients receive the highest level of stroke care close to home. From the emergency departments at its main campus and in Saraland to the J.L. Bedsole / Rotary Rehabilitation Hospital located inside Mobile Infirmary, a team of experts is available to provide better outcomes for patients from admission to rehabilitation and discharge.

In the last year, the Mobile Infirmary team has welcomed aboard Dr. John Andrew Cox, neuro-interventionalist. In partnership with Dr. Roger Tart, interventional radiologist, the hospital began providing 24/7 thrombectomy coverage in August of 2021. At that same time, thanks to the support of the E.A. Roberts Foundation, Mobile Infirmary added a Philips Biplane Angiography System, technology that helps accelerate stroke diagnosis and treatment.

Through the acronym BEFAST, signs and symptoms are easily recalled: B – Balance, E – Eyes, F – Face Drooping, A – Arm Weakness, S – Slurred Speech, T – TIME.
