Lauren Hopkins, D.O., recently spoke on Fox 10 News's Making Rounds segment about the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Thomas Hospital. The mission and vision of the Thomas Hospital Residency Program is to provide excellent internal medicine training and to create physician leaders who will serve the Baldwin County community with integrity and the highest standards of medical care. Dr. Hopkins outlined the multiple ways the program not only offers a unique experience for the resident doctors but also the benefits it provides the Baldwin County community.

"I think that we've really reached a lot of people within the community, and just seeing in Baldwin County, how there is such a physician shortage and how people really struggle to find primary care, it's been really nice to be able to fill that gap," she said. "And I know that that was Thomas and Infirmary Health's goal to really fill that void."

Baldwin County is the fastest-growing county in Alabama, and Thomas Hospital and Infirmary Health designed this residency program to serve the growing needs of the county. The program opened in 2020 at the height of the COVID pandemic. These residents have been able to serve through their clinic at Thomas Hospital, in the hospital setting at Thomas Hospital and Mobile Infirmary and in the community at COVID vaccine clinics, community health fairs and other screening events.
