Infirmary Health the first in Alabama to offer VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution for Total Knee Replacement

Mobile, Ala. – Infirmary Health is now the first healthcare system in Alabama to offer the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution for Total Knee Replacement. This technology offers improved patient outcomes, increased movement and shortened recovery time.

The Thomas Hospital orthopaedic surgery team completed the first replacement using this technology on March 11, led by Dr. Michael Chamblee, orthopaedic surgeon with Baldwin Bone & Joint. Mobile Infirmary completed its first case on April 4 and was led by Dr. Michael Granberry, orthopaedic surgeon with Gulf Orthopaedics and Director Infirmary Health Orthopedic Institute.

In 2019 there were approximately 900,000 primary knee replacements performed in the United States.1 Every knee is different, as is every patient requiring a knee replacement procedure. The VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution helps surgeons perform a knee replacement with the use of data that’s tailored to each patient’s anatomy. This technology is designed to help ensure predictable results to improve outcomes, increase mobility and helps patients recover faster.

“We are excited to be the first in Alabama to leverage this state-of-the-art technology,” said Dr. Granberry. “Infirmary Health is at the epi-center for the latest surgical technologies, and orthopaedics is no exception. Through the physician, administration and staff collaboration at Mobile Infirmary and Thomas Hospital, we are able to provide our patients with an enhanced experience.”

The VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution works in tandem with the ATTUNE® Knee System, which is an innovative knee implant designed to work more closely with an individual patient’s anatomy. The ATTUNE Knee can help increase stability and reduce pain, providing better range of motion and preventing the unstable feeling some patients experience during everyday activities, such as bending and walking up and down stairs.2-4 With these systems together, there is now an option for patients who are seeking the latest technology designed to provide digital precision in knee replacement.

Patients who believe they may be a candidate for a total knee replacement using the VELYS ™ Robotic-Assisted Solution can visit infirmaryhealth.org for more information.
