North Baldwin Infirmary Birth Center

North Baldwin Infirmary is a designated BABY-FRIENDLYTM facility. That means we meet the highest standards for maternity care and infant feeding.

  • Skin-to-skin time: If possible, you’ll spend your baby’s first hour after birth cuddled up together skin-to -skin. This helps regulate baby’s heart rate, body temperature and breathing.

  • Breastfeeding support: Since your baby will be close, you’ll be able to breastfeed as soon as you’re ready. Our trained staff will be there to help if you need it: even after going home.

  • Rooming in: Your baby stays in your room day and night, as long as you’re both healthy. That’s the best way to bond from the start.

Currently there are 454 active Baby-Friendly hospitals and birth centers in the United States. North Baldwin Infirmary is one of only six hospitals in the state of Alabama that have been given this distinction and the only hospital in both Mobile and Baldwin counties with this distinction. The "Baby-Friendly" designation is given after a rigorous on-site survey is completed. The award is maintained by continuing to practice the Ten Steps as demonstrated by quality processes.
