Advancing Surgical Cancer Care and Equity in the Deep South-ASCEND
Description of Trial:
ASCENDS is a research study to develop a plan for improving the quality of surgery care for patients who are diagnosed with colorectal, esophageal and pancreatic cancer in Alabama and Mississippi. For phase one, we are conducting interviews with healthcare providers and cancer patients. In phase two, we will be surveying and conducting medical chart abstraction with 1,000 cancer survivors. The project is in the process of developing the survey and the medical chart abstraction tool. In this project the CaRES intern will conduct a literature review to help develop the survey instrument and the chart abstraction tool. Other project opportunities include participating in healthcare provider interviews and assuring transcription data quality.
