Residents are met with regularly to assess special interests to tailor rotations accordingly.

Required Learning Experiences

Orientation
Eight-week experience covering pharmacy operations and clinical pharmacy consultation services including Epic training, departmental policies, pharmacokinetics, anticoagulation and nutrition support.
Internal Medicine
Five-week experience covering medical surgical patients with a focus on optimization of pharmacotherapy in a variety of internal medicine disease states (obesity, diabetes, COPD, infectious disease, and gastrointestinal disorders). Rotation responsibilities include consult coverage, designated unit order verification, daily interdisciplinary rounds (including case manager, social worker, nurses, and physicians), and assisting nursing staff with drug procurement and related drug information questions.

Research (longitudinal)
- Research project designed to improve pharmacy services or to achieve a specific research objective to be presented at ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting (December) and the Southeastern Residency Conference (April)
- Manuscript suitable for publication
Drug information and projects (longitudinal)
- ACPE-accredited seminar presentation targeted to a pharmacist and/or pharmacy technician audience
- Medication use evaluation to develop an understanding of the medication use process
- Several longitudinal projects designed to evaluate and optimize patient care and increase understanding of policy and procedure development
Operational practice (longitudinal)
- Once weekly, weekday evening operational staffing commitment (~16 hours/month)
- Weekend coverage every third weekend
