The Clinic’s History
Infirmary Health’s Diagnostic and Medical Clinic began in 1949. It was opened by Dr. Grady Segrest and originally was located on Mobile’s Government Street near the Oakleigh Garden District. The thriving practice soon took on Dr. John Moss, Dr. Henry Gewin and Bill Atkinson to grow the team. When Dr. Segrest began to serve as the Mobile Infirmary’s Chief of Medical Staff, the relationship between the Clinic and Infirmary Health was born. In 1968, Dr. Martin Lester began his practice at Diagnostic and Medical Clinic and continues to serve as the group’s senior partner. In 1991, the Clinic moved onto Mobile Infirmary’s campus where its headquarters remain to this day. Today the Clinic is an affiliate of Infirmary Health and employees more than 70 physicians. With eight locations across Mobile and Baldwin Counties, Diagnostic and Medical Center has served the community’s medical needs for over 70 years and will continue to do so.
